“This book gently dismantled the lies I believed about God—and about myself. I thought I had to choose between healing and staying faithful. He Is Enough showed me I could do both.” -Community Member, TN

These INVISIBLE AFTERSHOCKS have kept faithful Christian women stuck in fear, shame, and silence—long after the damage was done.

He Is Enough - a healing workbook for Christian women recovering from religious trauma

HE IS ENOUGH is a redemptive memoir and spiritual healing workbook for Christian women who love God but feel worn down by religious rules, shame, and silent suffering.

Learn to name what happened. Heal what’s still hurting.
And finally come home—to the truth, to yourself, and to the deeper connection with God you’ve longed for… the one that got buried beneath rules, roles, and religious expectations.

From Silent Suffering To Soul-Level Restoration

This is a book about TRUTH — the truth about who God is, who He isn’t, and who you are when shame no longer speaks for you.

This is a book about HEALING — the kind that doesn’t demand perfection, performance, or pretending everything’s fine.

I didn't think I was allowed to question anything.

Not my church. Not the way I was raised. And definitely not God.

But something inside me was breaking.

For years, I tried to be the faithful woman everyone expected me to be — loyal, obedient, self-sacrificing. I played the part, prayed the prayers, followed the rules, and carried the guilt quietly. I called it submission. I called it devotion. But underneath it all… I was slowly disappearing.

There were moments I would cry behind closed doors, begging God to help me feel close to Him again. To make the shame go away. To fix whatever was wrong with me.

But the harder I tried, the more I felt like a disappointment — to my family, my church, even to God Himself.

Until one day, I heard a whisper I couldn’t ignore:

“What if this isn’t faithfulness? What if this is spiritual abuse… hiding in plain sight?”

It was terrifying to even think it.

Because everything I knew — my identity, my community, my security — was built around the belief that questioning was rebellion.

It meant I didn’t have the “right spirit”—and that was code for being too emotional, too independent, or too much.

But the truth?
What I was calling faith… was actually fear.
And the more I unraveled that fear, the more clearly I began to see what had really shaped my relationship with God, myself, and others.

And that’s when everything changed.

I used to live in constant fear—of God, of emotions, of never being enough.

“I had no idea how deeply religious trauma was impacting me until I finally said yes to healing. The He Is Enough Book and coaching helped me rebuild my faith from the inside out. Now I talk to God without fear. I set boundaries without guilt. I’ve finally found the joy, peace, and connection I always longed for—and I’m not going back.” — Kristina T., Colorado

This isn't just another religious trauma story.

It's the roadmap out.

So many books and podcasts help you name the harm.
Fewer help you actually heal it.

Some will walk you through a process of unraveling your faith… but then leave you lost in the rubble, unsure of what you believe or who you are anymore. Others dismiss the whole thing — God, church, faith — as a lost cause, offering nothing but bitterness, sarcasm, or silence in return.

But what if you love God… and you’re still hurting?
What if you’re not trying to rebel or reject your faith — you just want to feel safe inside it again?

He Is Enough is different.

It doesn’t ask you to walk away from your faith.
It invites you to reclaim it — by gently uncovering the real reasons you’ve been feeling stuck, ashamed, confused, or unworthy… even though you’re still showing up and trying.

At the heart of this book is a groundbreaking framework called:

THE 12 HIDDEN BARRIERS OF RELIGIOUS TRAUMA

These are the invisible aftershocks that quietly shape how you see God, yourself, and the world… long after the original harm occurred.

Maybe you’ve heard that trauma affects the body and brain.
But religious trauma also affects YOUR SOUL.

And it hides in plain sight — inside your beliefs about obedience, sacrifice, submission, trust, fear, and what it means to be a “good Christian woman.”

These barriers aren’t just concepts.
They’re deeply internalized messages that keep women stuck in…

  • Self-doubt and second-guessing
  • Cycles of guilt, shame, and fear
  • Disconnection from God, themselves, and others
  • A quiet, constant pressure to “be good” even when it hurts

You may not have had language for what happened to you.
But once you name it — and begin to heal it — everything changes.

Inside He Is Enough, you’ll begin to:

  • Unravel the false messages that were implanted in God’s name
  • Rebuild a relationship with God that feels safe, loving, and true
  • Restore the pieces of yourself that were lost, hidden, or silenced
  • Walk forward with peace, clarity, and the confidence that you belong

This isn’t about theology debates or behavior reform.
It’s about transformation on a soul level.

You won’t be told what to think or believe.
You’ll be invited to listen to the Spirit within you — and finally feel what it’s like to heal in an environment of compassion, truth, and freedom.

Because when the hidden barriers lose their power… you begin to remember who you are.
And whose you are.

The Truth Is... She's Still In There.

You just forgot what it felt like to be her.

Before healing, life might look “fine” on the outside…
You’re serving. You’re smiling. You’re trying to be faithful.
But deep down, something feels off.

You’re exhausted from performing.
Ashamed for struggling.
Disconnected from the God you used to trust — and from the woman you used to be.

Maybe you’ve silently asked:

  • Why do I feel invisible, even in my own life?
  • Why do I feel bad for having needs… or using my voice?
  • Why do I keep shrinking, second-guessing, and trying harder — even when it’s hurting me?
  • What’s wrong with me that I can’t get past this?

You’re not the problem. The trauma is.

THE 12 HIDDEN BARRIERS OF RELIGIOUS TRAUMA have been quietly shaping your story — convincing you that being “less” is somehow holy. That disappearing is what makes you good.

But it’s not the end of your story.

Because the truth is…

✦ You were never meant to live under shame, silence, and spiritual fear.
✦ You were never meant to question your worth in God’s eyes.
✦ You were never meant to hide the most beautiful parts of who you are.

When you begin to heal the hidden barriers — something sacred happens.

You begin to remember.

You begin to come home.

From This…

  • Feeling small, ashamed, and unseen
  • Living under spiritual pressure and silent expectations
  • Disconnected from your own needs, voice, and longings
  • Afraid to question, speak up, or name what’s hurting
  • Confused about what’s true — about God, about you, about what’s next

…To This.

  • Seen, known, and safe in God’s presence
  • Confident in your voice, your value, and your worth
  • Reconnected with your desires, your dreams, and your design
  • Secure in a love that doesn’t require performance
  • Peaceful, present, and fully aligned with who God made you to be

We’ll share real stories here too — from other women who thought they were “just too sensitive,” “not spiritual enough,” or “beyond help.” But once they began to name the hidden barriers and embrace the truth, their healing began to unfold.

As a survivor of religious trauma, I didn’t even have words for my experience—until now.

Debra’s story put words to my wounds and light on my path. Reading this book felt like being seen for the first time.” — Faith G., Nairobi, Kenya

I didn’t even know religious trauma had a name—but it was shaping everything.

“My faith, my parenting, even my ability to rest. I used to beg God to help me feel safe. This book helped me find the safety I was missing—in Him, in myself, and in sisterhood. I didn’t feel alone anymore. I finally had words for what I was carrying—and a path forward.”
— Tekyia R.

I thought I had to earn love—from people, from God.

“But this journey showed me that love has always been here. The He Is Enough Book & Mini-Course helped me release fear and rewrite my story with truth. Now I feel rooted in my faith—not ruled by it. I believe in myself again. And I’m no longer afraid to become who I was created to be.”
— Simone F.

There is life beyond religious trauma.

And it’s more beautiful than you imagined.

Are you ready to see what it feels like…
to stop striving, to start healing, and to come home to God — and to yourself?

What's Inside He Is Enough?

This is more than a book. It's a beginning.

Part memoir.
Part workbook.
Part spiritual rescue kit for women who are ready to stop shrinking and start healing.

In these pages, you’ll walk with me through the actual story of how religious trauma formed my beliefs — and how I learned to unravel it, gently and powerfully, one truth at a time.

You’ll also be invited to do your own healing work along the way.

Because this isn’t just a story to read.
It’s a story to enter. A story that becomes your own.

Who This Is For...

This book was written for the woman who...

  • Loves God deeply, but silently wonders why her faith feels so heavy
  • Has tried to “be good,” “submit,” or “follow the rules,” but still feels like something is broken — and maybe it’s her
  • Is scared to ask hard questions because she doesn’t want to be rebellious, ungrateful, or disloyal
  • Feels confused, afraid, or worn down by a religion that never made space for her voice, emotions, or honest struggles
  • Longs to feel truly seen by God — not shamed, silenced, or “corrected”
  • Has spent years second-guessing her thoughts, her needs, and even her worth… in the name of faith
  • Knows she’s not ready to walk away from church or her beliefs — but also knows something needs to change

This book is for the woman who’s whispered:

Is it okay to ask this?
Why do I feel like I’m the problem?
Does anyone else feel this way?
Am I allowed to want more?

Yes, dear heart. You are.

You are not weak for needing healing. You are not selfish for wanting peace. And you are not crazy for noticing something feels… off.

He Is Enough was written to help you name what’s been hurting you — and walk you gently toward the God who never stopped loving you.

I didn’t realize how much I was still carrying until I began this journey.

“I thought I had dealt with my past, but the deeper I went with Debra’s guidance, the more I understood how religious trauma had shaped my faith, my relationships, and my identity. He Is Enough gave me the tools, the space, and the language to finally see myself as God sees me — not as someone who failed, but someone who was deeply loved all along. It changed everything.” -Kristina T.

And Who This Is Not For...

This isn't for those looking to:

– Debate doctrine
– Argue theology
– Blame or bash the church
– Stay stuck in a cycle of shame or bitterness

He Is Enough is for women who are ready to heal — with God, not apart from Him.

You don’t have to leave your faith to get well.
But you may need to leave behind some harmful ideas about who God is… and who you are.

And that’s where your healing begins.

For so long I felt like I was the only one — like no one would understand the pain of loving God but feeling crushed by the way I’d been taught to relate to Him.

“He Is Enough helped me put language to my experience and showed me how to unravel what wasn’t mine to carry. I feel more grounded, more free, and more connected to God than I ever thought possible. It felt like coming back to life.” -Simone F., TN

You Deserve A Healing Journey That Leads You Home

Not to more rules. Not to more silence.

But to a God who’s safer, closer, and more loving than you were ever taught to believe.

He Is Enough is more than a book.

It’s a healing companion for Christian women ready to unravel the trauma they were never meant to carry…
… and step into the peace, safety, and truth they’ve always longed for.

INSIDE, YOU’LL DISCOVER:

Debra’s redemptive memoir that mirrors your journey
– 12 Hidden Barriers that quietly sabotage your faith and identity
– Self-assessments, journal prompts, and spiritual insights to help you finally name and heal what’s been hurting

Debra puts into words what so many of us have felt: the heartbreaking contradiction of faith that both saved us and stole us.

Still Have Questions?

We've got you. Here are a few things you might be wondering...

Is this safe for me as a Christian?

Yes. He Is Enough is a faith-affirming, Scripture-respecting healing experience rooted in truth, not rebellion. You won’t be led away from your faith — you’ll be gently guided back to the deeper love and clarity you’ve always longed for. This book doesn’t try to replace the Bible or God. It simply helps you unravel the voices that distorted them.

Do I need to leave my church (or my family's beliefs) to heal?

Not at all. You’re not asked to abandon your church, community, or theology. This journey is about untangling what doesn’t belong — the guilt, fear, shame, and false identity that religious trauma may have wrapped around your soul. Healing doesn’t require separation… just honesty, curiosity, and space to be with God in a new way.

That said, if you’re in an environment that is spiritually or physically abusive, deeply toxic, or unsafe, your healing may eventually lead you to make different choices — not out of rebellion, but out of wisdom and self-respect. The goal isn’t to tell you what to do… it’s to help you heal enough to decide for yourself.

What if I’ve already read books like this?

This one is different. You won’t just read about healing — you’ll walk through it with real tools, self-assessments, and invitations to explore your own story. And it’s not abstract. This is a redemptive memoir from someone who’s lived it, wept through it, and created a practical, Spirit-led way forward. You’ll be seen, supported, and surprised by how deeply this speaks to your heart.

Is this just another book telling me to try harder or believe more?

No. This isn’t about performance. It’s about permission. You already love God. You’ve already tried. This book doesn’t ask you to be more obedient or faithful — it invites you to see the invisible barriers you’ve been carrying, and gently walk into the truth that sets you free.

Do I need years of therapy for this to work?

No. While therapy can be helpful, this book is designed as a first step — a healing conversation between your soul and God. You’ll uncover what’s been keeping you stuck and discover a gentler, clearer, more Spirit-led path forward. Many women begin their healing with this book alone and experience powerful shifts right away.

Debra Shafer is a spiritual healing life coach, group mentor, and founder of the Healing Religious Trauma Circle — a community for Christian women reclaiming their faith after spiritual harm.

Raised in generations of fear-based theology, she knows what it’s like to love God deeply while wrestling with shame, silence, and spiritual confusion. Her own healing journey led her through a painful unraveling of everything she thought she had to be — and into a deeper connection with the God who never stopped calling her by name.

Today, she walks with other brave women through that same redemptive process. Her service is not just a calling — it’s the work that saved her life. She offers this book as a gentle invitation to come home to the truth, to yourself, and to the One who’s been there all along.
